The two earbuds are paired to each other as well as the case. To fix the issue you have to teach your Airpods to accept the new item a as part of the set and stop looking for the old item.

Unfortunately as these are pre-owned items, we can't guarantee that they aren't still connected to an account and we're unable to erase that as part of the refurbishment process. They will work fine, however you won't be able to use the Find My function yourself. In terms of someone else checking your location, there would be an audible beep from the case if they attempted to do that, so you would know if it were activated.If you aren't happy with that, you're welcome to return them for a refund, however you'd have to find a new one from somewhere instead.
